Marigau

An ancient desert city that was first settled by Marig, a child of the First Gods. His love for fire scorched the lands and set the desert from the mountains to the sea. His creation, the Marigaun's were hidden among the desert and blessed by Marig to protect them from the eye of the First Gods.

Geography

The desert heat is not kind to any of the inhabitants of the lands. The Mariguan race has had the history in taming the wild lands to their needs. The desert land covers the majority of the Southern tip of Ubros. With a mountain range protecting the rest of the continent from the heat of the desert. Large hills have developed in the center of the Marigau Desert and have since aided in protecting the great city from vast wind storms that have stirred up since the exitus of Marig.

Government

The monarchy of the Fourth Dynasty has reigned for several generations. Being the fourth family to assume the throne, since their reign Marigau has known peace and prosperity. While many in their line has ruled over the vast city, they have all held true to their beliefs and morals. Ensuring that their people are taken care of long before the royal family is.

Law and Order

Injustice in Marigau is dealt with swiftly. Many thieves have lost not just limb but life at the risk of an item that was not theirs to take. The belief, is that all families are cherished and taken care of by the royal house. There is no hunger or famine in the nation, unless the royal family go without first. Because of the generous portions they receive, theft is dealt with harshly.

Crime

While home to the Guild of Secrets, the local law is protected well. "To be disrespectful in your own house is barbaric." Said the 8th Leader of the Guild, Vrix of Dunelan. Since his outspoken stance on the disrespectful nature of breaking the law in your own home, the guild has held up the law in Marigau alongside the Marigaun Guard. All memebers of the royal household have served on the guard, some still serve there, ensuring that the inhabitants of their land are put first.

Trade

While they have little to export, they have found that they are the leading manufacturer of silks and leather in the country. Making this one of the wealthiest countries. The open trade agreement with La'Koda and Etilan has help establish a strong foothold across the continent and the rest of Edalon.

Defenses

The Marigaun is known for being one of the fiercest armies. While they will not break rules in their own home, outside on the warpath, anything goes. They are a fierce nation to be regarded with caution in battle.

History

Founded by Marig, the city found prosperity very slowly. It was in the 3rd generation that the city opened it's port and borders to outsiders.

Notable Locations

The sand dunes of the north are said to be reach in black earth, a rare mineral that can harness many types of magics.

Inhabitants

The city is occupied primarily by Marigauns, it was discovered that early in the years of the portals humans had come to reside within their borders. While they were not dismissed, they were challenged at first. It is not uncommon to find a Marigaun/Human hyrbid in the city now. Though it is considered a horrid deed to mate with any of the other races that came in from the portal.

Culture

A city of regalality and morals has held steadfast to their views over the many generations of their existence.

Religion

While they would not claim to worship him, an obelisk to Marig was erected in the center of the city. This has become the place to give thanks for all that they have done and when an enemy is conquered, here is where it is announced. When war is raged or a treaty is signed, here is where they announce it. In front of the pillar of honor to the one that brought them life.

Festivals

• Feast of Sands - Comes just before the sandstorm season, in the early spring. During this time they cry out for rain to get through the harsh summer ahead.

• Feast of Souls - A feast to celebrate the souls that were lost in the closing of the portal.
